Arleigh Burke Class Guided Missile Destroyer

This is the U.S. Navy's newest class of guided missile destroyer. The first ship of the class, USS Arleigh Burke, was commissioned in 1991, and over 30 have been built. These ships displace 8373 tons, fully loaded. Their length is 465.9 feet; beam is 66.9 feet. Four gas turbine engines produce 100,00 horsepower on two shafts, driving the ships at speeds up to 31 knots. The ship shown here is USS John Paul Jones, DDG-53 on a San Diego harbor chart.
